Paul and I had decided to move back into our little house after our Son moved out to go flatting. Before we moved back in we thought we would get the house repainted on the inside, so we chose colours, moved furniture, bought paint, bought fabric for curtains. Last weekend while the painters where half way through the job we came and did cleaning and I made a start on sewing the curtains. So the start of the second week in July saw us on a high, knowing the painters would be finished by the weeks end and we would be able to move in on the weekend.
Never count your chickens...., so the saying goes. Monday evening when I arrived back at the boat after work, I could not get the gas heater started, Paul arrived and He had no luck either. This would have been not so bad except... that morning we had a frost, and they were predicted for the coming few days. Tuesday morning Paul had to crawl up the iced up pontoon ramp, Wednesday and Thursday were much the same, it was cold and very damp on the boat.
But then there was more..... Thursday morning I woke up feeling not quite right, trundled off to work, by the end of the day I was shattered, I was not looking forward to another night on the boat in the cold and damp. But someone heard my wish, Paul rang, the painters had finished early. Off we went to have a look, it looked great, and dry and possibly warm aahhhh. So camping in our own house commenced.
Long story short, we moved in Thursday night, I then proceeded to get the flu, Paul moved the furniture from the Garage on Saturday, He then proceded to get another urinary tract infection and the flu. So as you can see it has been an up and down week/end. We are both on the way to recovery, we have successfully settled back into the house, and we have ordered the part for Kabuki's heater so that we do not have to go through that again.
We are both sad to move off the yacht, and also to have it end on such a bad note. We love living on the boat, it had been quite comfortable up until the heater breakdown. But as it has been over the last three years, this is not the end. We are entering our "Winter Hiatus" earning freedom chips, preparing for the next time we move on board Kabuki and sail off to who know where.
