This is just a observation that I have made in our travels. Here in New Zealand, every City, Town or settlement seems to have a memorial to the Great Wars. The First and Second world war, Korea, Vietnam etc, they have all played a major part in molding us as a nation and a people. Our forefathers stood up and were counted on the battlefields of the world, and our young men are still doing it today. We as a nation come together every Anzac Day to remember their sacrifices, their efforts to keep us the free nation we are today.
Every year we also have a day where we commemorate the signing of a Treaty, Waitangi Day. This is supposed to be a coming together of our nation, the flag waving celebration of our triumphs and our uniqueness as New Zealanders. I can never remember a Waitangi Day without division or controversy, without abuse or violence. Why is it that we can not stand together on this day and be a Nation, joined as one people with one aim..... just like our forefathers did all those years ago.
