Happy New Year everyone.

We have both finished work for an indefinite period,  letting loose the ties to the mundane of worker life, grasping the chance to be free. We have worked hard for the last two years, saving, refitting Kabuki and repairing ourselves, in a somewhat haphazard manner. We are ready for another adventure, another summer afloat with our beloved boat.

Boxing Day has rolled around and we have started in earnest getting ready for our summer cruise. We started with clearing out all the extra "stuff" we have accumulated over the past 10 months. It is quite surprising how much there was to take home. Then it was a boat clean up, inside, as we had more room after the clear out. We have got our lists organised, well sort of, and the next step is putting them into action. So now it is New Years Eve and we are about ready to set off, but what happens? The weather is packing up on us, gales and rain are forecast for the next two days, so we will wait, enjoy a relaxed New Years and my nephews birthday tomorrow, we have the time.

I must admit I am looking forward to a quiet New Years spent with my main man, and then a new year tomorrow clean and fresh and ready to roll. But this time gets me thinking of others who are not as fortunate as we have been. A couple we have had a limited acquaintance with just recently lost their yacht, their home on the beach at Ruakaka. I can imagine how it must feel for them. A yacht is a lot more than a house, Boats are individuals, they have a mind of their own, a temperament, they become a part of your family, like a child or a dog. So my thoughts go out to this couple, I hope the New Year deals with them in a better way than the old year has.

As for the rest of you may the New Year treat you well, and the old year be left behind with fond memories and no regrets.
Not an auspicious start to the new year, but we need some rain.
